What the heck is steampunk?
Steampunk is a unique fashion style that typically incorporates elements of history, industrial machinery and futurism. It often features clothing with a vintage look, such as oversized coats, loose-fitting work pants or fitted vests, along with pieces that incorporate leather or metal studs, such as boots or corsets. In addition to the clothing, steampunk style also puts emphasis on accessories like streamlined goggles, pocket-watches on chains, wristwatches with leather straps, and belts for enhancing individual looks. While the exact origins of steampunk are unclear, it can be traced back to the 1980s, where it was mainly expressed in literature, gaming, and movie culture. Steampunk generally blends anachronistic technology with fanciful steam-powered inventions, embodying an aesthetic that aesthetically combines early science fiction with Victorian-era style and functionality.
